Catholic Life and Mission

Growing Together in Faith, Hope and Love

At SS John and Monica Catholic Primary School, our Catholic faith is at the heart of everything we do. Inspired by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, we strive to create a warm, welcoming and inclusive school community where every child is known, loved, respected and valued.

Our school is enriched by the diversity of cultures, faiths and backgrounds represented within our community. We celebrate this diversity, recognising that each child is a unique and precious individual, created in the image and likeness of God, with their own gifts, talents, strengths and needs.

Our mission is to provide a nurturing and inspiring environment in which every child feels happy, safe and supported, enabling them to flourish spiritually, morally, socially, emotionally, physically and academically.

Our School Mission

“At SS John and Monica's, we learn through the example of Jesus to love, respect, understand and value each other.”

Our mission is much more than a statement; it is the foundation of our school community. It shapes our relationships, guides our decisions and is reflected in the way we teach, learn, worship and care for one another each day.

We believe that Catholic education is about developing the whole child. Alongside academic achievement, we place great importance on nurturing children's faith, character, confidence, compassion and sense of responsibility towards others.

We encourage our pupils to recognise their own worth, celebrate the achievements of others and develop the skills and values needed to make a positive contribution to society.

Living Out Our Gospel Values

As one school family, united as children of God, we are committed to placing our Gospel values of Love, Peace, Justice, Honesty and Forgiveness at the centre of our daily lives.

These values guide how we treat one another and help our children understand what it means to follow the example of Jesus.

  • Love: Showing kindness, compassion and care for everyone.

  • Peace: Building positive relationships, promoting understanding and resolving disagreements respectfully.

  • Justice: Treating others fairly, respecting human dignity and standing up for what is right.

  • Honesty: Acting with integrity, being truthful and taking responsibility for our actions.

  • Forgiveness: Showing mercy, learning from mistakes and giving others the opportunity to make a fresh start.

Through prayer, worship, Religious Education, charitable activities and everyday interactions, we encourage children to put these values into action and recognise that even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference.

A Strong Partnership Between Home, School and Parish

We recognise that parents and carers are the first and most important educators of their children. Their role in nurturing faith, developing values and supporting learning is fundamental.

We are committed to working closely with families and our parish community, building relationships founded on mutual trust, respect and shared responsibility.

Together, we seek to provide a consistent and supportive environment in which children can grow in faith, develop a strong sense of belonging and flourish as individuals.

Faith in Action

Our Catholic Life and Mission extends beyond the classroom and into the wider community.

Inspired by Jesus' commandment to love God and love our neighbour as ourselves, we encourage our children to demonstrate compassion, generosity and service to others.

Through charitable fundraising, community involvement, prayer and opportunities to support those in need, pupils learn the importance of Catholic Social Teaching, including respect for human dignity, solidarity, care for creation and working for the common good.

We want our children to understand that faith is not simply something we learn about, but something we live through our words, choices and actions.

Preparing Children for Life

Our ambition is for every child to leave SS John and Monica's as a confident, compassionate and responsible young person, equipped with the knowledge, skills, faith and values to embrace life's opportunities and challenges.

We seek to nurture children who are curious about the world, respectful of others, resilient in the face of difficulties and committed to making a positive difference.

At SS John and Monica Catholic Primary School, we are proud to be one family, growing together in faith and learning, inspired by Jesus and united by our commitment to love, respect, understand and value one another.
