Forest School at SS John and Monica

In addition to our usual classroom activities, we offer children the chance to participate in Forest School learning sessions throughout the year. This innovative and exciting development originated in Denmark and was brought to the UK in 1995.  We employ the services of a qualified and highly experienced Forest School teacher who comes into school one day per week.  The Forest School at SS John and Monica has been running since June 2007, and children from across the school have had the benefit of sessions to build their self-confidence and self-esteem.

Our Forest School sessions are packed with a variety of engaging activities. From listening to the sounds of nature, observation tasks, and a fun game of '1,2,3, Where are You?' to more hands-on activities like mud painting and shelter building, there's something for every child. The program also covers tool use and fire safety for our older students, providing them with valuable life skills.

The school provides weatherproof clothing for the sessions, including dungarees, jackets, and wellies for the smaller children and rainproof jackets and trousers with wellies for the older children.

Our Forest School sessions are conducted throughout the year, come rain or shine. However, we prioritise the safety of our students and do not take them out in instances of high winds, extremely heavy rain, or electrical storms. This strict adherence to safety measures ensures that your child's well-being is always our top priority, giving you peace of mind.
